Are You Groggy Today, Christian?
Groggy day? Easily irritable? Focused? A question I need to ask myself every day:
Am I walking into the day “filled with the Spirit,” “renewed” in my mind, putting “on the new self?” Am I going to fight for it or try to coast today?
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit…”
“…the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
(Eph 5:18, 4:22b-24)
Steps to A Grog Free Day
- Stop and Think
The Spirit of God communicates through your heart and mind. Often a day starts off 100 miles an hour and never stops. Stop and choose to think on some aspect of Christ that makes you to be in wonder of Him. (Matthew 22:37) - Stop and Pray
Let your heart, mind, and mouth express your needs, desires, and plans to Christ. Involve God into the little details of your day. Ask Jesus what He wants you to do today. (Eph 5:1,2) - Stop and Praise (Worship)
Sing a song. Really! Praise Jesus by singing a hymn or worship song. (Eph 5:19-20 Psalm 100:4) - Stop and Listen
Read (or listen) to a Psalm or Proverb, the Gospels, the Letters or the Epistles. Read or listen through the Bible chronologically. Let your ears be tuned to His Word. The God speaks through His Word. (Eph 5:8-10)
If we remember to de-grog are day, we are being intentional in letting our minds be renewed in His. His mind isn’t groggy at all!
